The AACP was established to develop a national approach to the practice of ‘consultant’ pharmacy as an expansion of the professional health role of pharmacy in Australia. The AACP is jointly owned by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) and The Pharmacy Guild of Australia (the Guild).
The AACP is managed by a Board comprising four nominees from each of the Shareholders. The Board is responsible for the policy operation of the AACP. The Chair of AACP is rotated every two-years between the two Shareholder organisations (the Chair does not have a casting vote). The Board meets three times each year.
The National Advisory Group (NAG) is responsible for reviewing the adequacy and appropriateness of the current accreditation systems and making recommendations for the refinement and improvement of those systems. The Group is also responsible for developing and overseeing the assessment programs, and identifying, implementing and evaluating appropriate education, information and support programs for accredited pharmacists.
The AACP Board relies on the NAG for advice regarding the new developments and trends which may impact on accreditation and credentialing, including other new professional services or aspects of pharmacy practice. The members of the NAG include:
